The first Lumberjack and Eskomo girls soccer match of the year went the way of Esko, on their home field 2-1 August 30, 2011. Carley Esse got Cloquet a 1-0 lead scoring 6:11 into the first half. That lead held until nearly the 25th minute of the second half when Caitlin Lilly scored off a Hillary Anderson corner kick, the third corner kick in succession for Esko. Inside of ten minutes remaining, Kadee Karkkainen perfectly placed a kick fro 30 yards out in the top left corner of the net for the go ahead, game winning goal for Esko.
