Esko opened their 2012 football season with a 22-12 win vs Deer River, August 30, 2012. Riley Mudek and Earl Brinkley each scored first half rushing touchdowns, around a Marc Peterson touchdown pass to Ryan Holte. Deer River scored on their very first play, a 78 yard handoff to August Marleau, and from then on the Esko defense held their ground. The other Deer River touchdown was an interception return by Jesse Miller, when Peterson's arm was hit on a throw.
