Both with 5-1 victories, Duluth East defeated Elk River, while Grand Rapids defeated Cloquet, in the 2011 Section 7AA Semi-finals at Amsoil Arena, February 26, 2011. Elk River scored their only goal, by Matt Eilertson, on a 2 on 1 breakaway after an apparent East goal was waved off and the Greyhound players thinking they'd scored. 5 Greyhounds each scored a goal, with Nate Repensky and Jake Randolph in the second period, and Connor Valesano, Trevor Olson, and Luke Renier in the third period. Elk River's Andres Franke stopped 40 of 45 shots, while JoJo Jeanetta stopped 19 of 20 for East.

Just 2:16 after Hammann's goal, Avery Peterson beat Boyd Smith to retake the lead. Christian Pearson scored at 13:15 of the period, and Zach Dick scored with just 8 seconds left in the period to give the Thunderhawks a 4-1 lead going to the third period.
