The Thunder football once again debuted by playing Central Lakes at the MCAC Kickoff Classic in St. Cloud. The Raiders opened the scoring with a touchdown run by starting quarterback Andrew Johnson, in which he injured his shoulder stretching for the goal line. 33 seconds into the 2nd quarter Thunder QB Michael Davis threw his first of three touchdown passes, the first to Brandan Peterson. The extra point snap wasn't handled and Central Lakes led 7-6. Central Lakes Avery Duncan returned the ensuing kickoff for a score, raising their lead to 14-6. After a fumble recorvery, the Thunder scored on a 10 yard touchdown pass from Davis to Terrance Crawley. The Thunder, going for two, were called for delay of game, then missed the 2 point conversion try. Central Lakes again got a long return, all the way to the Thunder 17, and scored on a 2 yard touchdown run for a 21-12 lead that was the halftime score. Michael Davis' third touchdown pass of the game, at 9:51 of the 3rd quarter, 21 yards to Adrian Thompkins brought the score to 21-19 (after Anthony Wood's extra point) for Central Lakes. 6:40 into the 4th quarter Central lakes scored again, on a 23 yard reception by Maurice Baldwin. The extra point was missed, but the Thunder jumped offside on the attempt, which the Raiders capitalized on with a 2 point conversion, giving them a 29-19 lead. Thunder running back John Brown scored the final points of the game, on a short run up the middle, and Wood again kicked an extra point for the Thunder to cut the score to 29-26. A Thunder drive in the final 2+ minutes ran out of time, giving Central Lakes the 29-26 victory.
