The Bulldogs put up 4 goals in the first 15:13 of the first period, then allowed Michigan Tech to chip away the lead, with 1 goal in the second period and 3 third period goals to force overtime and earn a tie at Amsoil Arena, January 27, 2012. David Grun's first goal of the season made it 1-0 UMD at 5:50 of the first period. Caleb Herbert's first of two goals (giving him 10) at 10:20 made it 2-0. Brady Lamb made it 3-0 just 38 seconds later, and Herbert's second goal at 15:13 made it 4-0. Herbert also had an assist, while Travis Oleksuk had two assists in the four UMD goals. Tech's goals were scored by Ryan Furne in the second period, and Jordan Baker, Jacob Johnstone, and David Johnstone in the third period. Kenny Reiter stopped 35 of 39 Tech shots, while Josh Robinson stopped 33 of 37 UMD shots.
