The UMD Women's hockey team fell to North Dakota 4-1 on Friday, February 22, with North Dakota scoring their final 2 goals into a empty net when UMD pulled Karissa Grapp for an extra attacker while down 2-1. Brigette Lacquette scored the lone Bulldog goal in the game, and Grapp stopped 26 of 28 shots she faced in her first Bulldog start, and second action of the season. Grapp started out looking a little nervous early but got stronger and stronger as the game went on, stopping 11 of 13 first period shots and all 15 she faced the second and third periods.

On Saturday, the UMD women needed either a regulation win, or a win via a shootout after a tie, to secure a home ice WCHA quarterfinal playoff series vs. Ohio State. UMD got their shootout win after Kayla Black stopped 46 North Dakota shots to secure a 2-2 tie. Jenna McParland, Jessica Wong scored shootout goals for UMD in the first two rounds, and with the shootout tied at 2-2, Black stopped North Dakota's Josefine Jakobsen to give UMD the advantage. After a bit of deliberation, UMD coach Shannon Miller put Brigette Lacquette on the ice for the game winner chance, which she buried 5 hole on goaltender Shelby Amsley-Benzie to clinch the home series at Amsoil Arena. UMD’s regulation goals were scored by seniors Katie Wilson, scoring from the slot while being pulled down to the ice, and Jamie Kenyon, who got credit for the game tying goal at 16:49 of the second after McParland put the puck on net. In making 46 of 48 saves, Kayla Black stopped 29 shots in the third period and overtime combined, and UMD never got a shot on goal in the overtime session.
