UMD Women’s Hockey 2012-13 Season Debuts

The UMD Bulldogs women’s hockey team debuted for the 2012-13 season with a 5-3 exhibition win over the Minnesota Whitecaps at Amsoil Arena September 28, 2012. Audrey Cournoyer put UMD ahead at 11:34 of the first period, while Pernilla Winberg put on the jets at 15:27, getting past the Whitecaps defense to get in on goaltender Sanya Sandahl, who she beat for a 2-0 lead.

Freshman Alivia Del Basso put UMD up 3-0 59 seconds into the second period, and freshman Hannah Bramm made the score 4-0 at 12:02 of the second. Duluth native (University of Maine) Amy Stech put the Whitecaps on the board at 17:41 of the period, putting a shot under the crossbar.

Cournoyer notched her second goal of the game, at 5:43 of the third period put UMD up 5-1. Allie Thunstrom made the score 5-2 at 6:29 of the third, also roofing a shot just under the crossbar and Jessica Tyra scored at 8:24, the final tally of the game.

UMD goaltender Kayla Black stopped all 12 shots she faced in just over 30 minutes of action, while Sofia Calstrom stopped 8 of 11 shots in her half of the game. UMD outshot the Whitecaps 34-26 for the game, and went 1 for 6 on the powerplay in the game.
