UMD Women Fall to Ohio State

The UMD women’s hockey team fell to Ohio State University 3-1 in the regular season home opener at Amsoil Arena, October 5, 2012.  Kayla Sullivan (assist by Cara Zubko) put the Buckeyes up 1-0 just 55 seconds into the game and Hokey Langan (from Paige Semenza, Tina Hollowell) made it 2-0 at 6:56 of the period.  Katie Wilson (from Pernilla Winberg, Shara Jasper) notched her first goal of the season, at 13:54 of the first period, putting back a rebound of her own shot in a scrum in front of Buckeyes’ goaltender Chelsea Knapp.  After a scoreless second period, Ohio State’s Paige Semenza (from Bryanna Neuwald, Chelsea Knapp) capitalized on a third period UMD turnover deep in the Ohio State zone to score a breakaway goal past UMD goaltender Kayla Black.<p>

Kayla Black stopped 22 of 25 Buckeye shots she faced, while Chelsea Knapp stopped 16 of 17 UMD shots.  Ohio State was 1 of 4 on the powerplay, while the ‘Dogs were scoreless on 2 powerplay chances.
